Jack Weldon - Commercial Representative

Jack WeldonAs amateur and professional actor on stage and radio, and as announcer for several northern stations, Jack Weldon, the only New Yorker on the staff of WDBJ, had had wide experience in his work before he joined the local station in November, 1934. He now holds the positions of announcer and commercial representative for the radio station.

During his school days in New York City, My Weldon worked in a Wall Street brokerage house as a runner, and soon after finishing high school began his radio career as an amateur actor. After six weeks of sustaining broadcasts as an actor, he accepted the offer of a job as part time announcer, and in six months was a regular member of the staff of the small 100 watt station, WMRJ, in Jamaica, N. Y.

After a year and a half of this, he was able to finance a course in the Columbia University extension school which he completed in three years. He also worked for a time with WBNX in the Bronx, N. Y.

Experience with a stock company that traveled up and down the eastern seaboard fitted him to take a position with the National Broadcasting Company in Radio City, New York, as an actor, which he held until coming to Roanoke and WDBJ.
