Irving Sharp - Announcer
Irving
Sharp - Persistence and determination, refusal to accept failure, were the
qualities which enabled Irving Sharp to break into the field of his choice,
and which have raised him to his present position of announcer and control
room operator.
In the early days, when Mr. Sharp was a "Jack of all trades" after graduating from Jefferson High School here, his friends knew him for an entertainer of worth with piano and song. Two trial auditions failed to secure him a spot with the local station, but in the third he was successful. An occasional broadcast over WDBJ gave him a knowledge of the duties of announcer, and before long he secured a position with WDBJ in this capacity. Still anxious to learn, Mr. Sharp became familiar with the studio control room operations, and now spends part of his time there. Irving Sharp's reputation as a wit is based upon his featured "Musical Clock" program.
